Indiana Dairy Goat Youth Association (IDGYA)
IDGA Youth
The Indiana Dairy Goat Youth Association (IDGYA) is comprised of youth ages up to 18 years throughout the state of Indiana. The IDGYA is sponsored by and a division of the Indiana Dairy Goat Association. The IDGYA mission consists of sharing knowledge and learning all about dairy goats. Our youth members are focused on dairy goat care including health, fitting and showmanship.
IDGYA plans meetings during the year and elects officers. The meetings are held in the central part of the state. IDGYA’s web site and Facebook page provides the public and members with a schedule of events including clinics, shows, conferences, meetings; plus helpful articles, minutes from the meetings and dairy goat related information.
Every year, the IDGYA hosts the Indiana State Fair IDGYA Dairy Goat Olympics. The Dairy Goat Olympics are open to youth exhibiting at the Indiana State Fair either in open or 4-H. It consists of an obstacle course that the participants take their goats through. The obstacle course is set up at different divisions levels including senior, intermediate, junior and beginner. Just some of the classes are spoon milking, bucket weaving, noodle looping, tarp tapping, bale bounding and the balancing goat. The Indiana State Fair Goat Olympics are great fun for the participants and a big crowd favorite!
The IDGYA Youth Fitting Team is sponsored by the IDGA and goes to the American Dairy Goat Association National Show Youth Fitting Competition. A youth fitting competition is held annually at the ADGA National Show and involves a team effort to groom animals within a thirty minute period. This competition is a wonderful learning experience for our youth and an opportunity to meet other dairy goat youth from across America.
