The Futurity at Hoosier Classic

Indiana Dairy Goat Futurity

WHAT IS THE FUTURITY?
The Indiana Dairy Goat, All Breed Doe Futurity is a class for three-year old registered ADGA dairy goats in which the animals are nominated in the year of their birth and compete in the 3 year old class at the Hoosier Classic. Premiums are paid as determined by the number of does nominated and their placing in their respective breed class.

WHY SHOULD I NOMINATE MY DOES?
Competitors can highlight their breeding program showing stock they have produced. Premiums are paid to winners in each breed.

WHO CAN NOMINATE A DOE AND HOW DO I?
The Breeder or Owner of a doe bred by an Indiana breeder and born in Indiana can be nominated by
completing the nomination form and sending payment to IDGA. The nomination fee is $20 per animal. If a nominated doe is sold, she may be shown and compete at the Hoosier Classic with the new owner as a three year old Futurity doe.

HOW IS THE FUTURITY SETUP?
The fees paid when nominating the animal will be added to the breed sum to determine the purse. (The more entries in the breed the higher the payout.) Ten percent (10%) of all nomination fees will be placed in an expense fund (awards, etc.) The purse in each breed will be divided as follows:

  • 1st Place 40%  |  2nd Place 30%  |  3rd Place 20%

Nominated animals will be divided into different classes based upon breed (sanctioned breeds therefore AOP is possible). Breeds eligible for the futurity are the following:

Alpine, LaMancha, Nigerian Dwarf, Nubian, Oberhasli,
Saanen, Sable, Toggenburg, Guernsey, Recorded Grade

In the event the Hoosier Classic Chair/Show Committee opts to combine breeds into an AOP class, pay out for Futurity will still be based on breed, therefore all breeds will still be separately paid out.

It is not a requirement that the exhibitor be an IDGA member.

The futurity class will be imbedded within the 3 year old class of each breed under a judge. If a doe is born after the 3 year old base date outlined by the Hoosier Classic. (i.e she is not yet 3 on day of show, she will show the following year as a true 3 year old.)

It will be explained to the futurity judge that at no time do animals place first by default because they are the only entry or one of the few entries. It must be the judge’s opinion that the animal is a worthy representative of their breed. If the judge does not feel there is an animal worthy of first place, then a second and third place premium can be awarded and first place withheld. This decision will be final.

Winners of Futurity Awards will be listed on The Indiana Dairy Goat Association website and social media. All 1st place animals will be made available for photo upon the request of The Indiana Dairy Goat Association for publicity use. Such photos will remain the property of The Indiana Dairy Goat Association for history and future publications.

The Hoosier Classic

The Indiana Dairy Goat Association sponsors The Hoosier Classic – a two day, three ring open dairy goat show. Held the second weekend of June each year, The Hoosier Classic will be celebrating its 53rd Year in 2025. Exhibitors from across Indiana, and neighboring states, gather to exhibit their animals, renew (and begin) friendships and spend the weekend celebrating their love of dairy goats.

The Hoosier Classic is an ADGA sanctioned show, featuring separate sanctionings for Junior Does and Senior Does. A dairy wether show is also held, as well as competition in four showmanship classes. Over 500 goats and among the premier shows in the Midwest.
